Summary/Note: Peer behind the scenes of early Season 9 as Daniel keeps Sam in the SGC loop - including his ever-so-trying relationship with Vala Mal Doran. An experiment in interpretation with no relation to the TNG episode of the same name. I am grateful to my beta reader purplepenguin and to everyone who responded to this post. This fic took three tries, and it still wouldn't be here without your help.
