(no subject)
I know it's two weeks late, but here's my thoughts on the JKR Chat, anyway...
The middle names - a mixed bag.
I agree with the general WTF? over "Ginny Molly", though when you consider that one or both of them could be a nickname (probably just the first, though, because who shortens their middle name?), it's not so bad.
I have always agreed with the short middle named-Hermione camp, because it's like what my parents did. My sisters and I all have four letter first names that could, to varying degrees, be considered unusually spelled. They then gave us longer, more conventional middle names, in case we ever decided we hated the first one and wanted to switch them. To date, none of us has done so.
My sympathies to Ronald Bilius Weasley. *snickers*
Gryffindor Marauders
*feels vindicated*
Stupid questions
Okay, people. This is JKR we're talking about. SHE IS NOT GOING TO GIVE AWAY PLOT DETAILS. So stop asking. Sheesh.
Motorbike
She's such a tease, man. Now I want to reread the books and figure it out. We last saw it with Hagrid...
Harry's dead and unimportant grandparents
Ooo, taking a chunk out of all of the Heir theories! *dances* With her emphasis on choice over lineage, I've never bought into that Heir of Whoever stuff. It makes good fanfic, but I don't think it'll be in the books. And yeah, I know she gives an ambiguous answer about that later, but even if they're related, having unimportant grandparents indicates to me that there's no strong line thing going on. If that makes any sense.
Sirius
So, in other words, we will be seeing something about the mirror and something about Sirius again, though I would not hold out hopes for a full return if I were any of you. The guy's dead, but I'm sure there will be a lot in book six about Harry coming to terms with that.
"In book six, the wizarding world is really at war again and he has to master his own feelings to make himself useful."
Please tell me this means an end to capslock!Harry. Please? *crosses fingers*
"revealing doodlings"
Snicker snicker snerk snerk snerk. Giggle.
Hermione's younger sister
Wow. That one totally threw me, but it makes sense in terms of her personality (so does only child syndrome, which can go one of two ways). I agree that it's too late now to add her, though.
" I don't believe that anybody was born evil."
This is the quote to which all redemptionists must cling. *clings and does the "It's all about choice!" dance* Also, she doesn't believe in RL prophecies. Whee...
Congrats to
lizardlaugh on getting a question in!
Neville
Aaaand mark this one down as a blow to the "Neville Longbottom and the _____" crowd. Sure, he has a bigger part to play, but the fact that she says he *already* has it indicates to me that it will not suddenly get ten times bigger, such as having him defeat Voldemort would do. Her later answer about Voldemort choosing Harry adds support.
Narcissa is not related to Lily. Percy is not a spy.
Sorry. I think the first was obvious after OotP, though. I do believe that Percy will wise up after those events, so there is hope for the boy.
The Ship Stuff
*sends condolences to D/Hr canon shippers* We'll always have fandom, eh? What I love about this quote is that it's a clear example of what JKR says when she is outright denying something. She *is* willing to debunk ship rumors. Her answer to the H/Hr question followed in a long trend of ambiguous answers to that question. I'd like to think it shows that the endless debate is not trivial or unimportant. But that's just me. Also, this interview should put to rest any remaining Harry/Cho speculation.
Messengers to Muggle parents
*feels vindicated again*
Unknown Gryffindor girls
Huh. I really didn't think they existed. But then, Harry was still learning the names of people with whom he's had classes for four years, so chalk another one up to tunnelvision!Harry. I feel this is a good time to mention my theory that his class of Gryffindors has DADA with the Ravenclaws.
Quidditch
*cracks up* Bludgers, indeed.
This bit about the new Captain allowing Ron to stay on the team worries me. Who on earth is it, and why wouldn't they want him there? He's their King!
gazza: will harry become head master of hogwarts
JK Rowling replies -> I'm not sure I can see Harry in an academic career, he's seen so much action!
I literally did a dance in my chair when I read that one. I knew it, I knew it, I knew it! It's that "saving people thing" of his, you know.
Rumors debunked
Daddy!Voldemort, thank goodness. Draco's siblings. Vampire!Snape. Whee...
Book Six
New Quidditch Captain! New Minister of Magic! More backstory about the Marauders and Tom Riddle! Grawp! Sane!Harry!
I can't wait.
